ANTARCTICA

A Journey to the White Continent Including the Falklands, South Georgia and the South Shetlands

EcoQuest Travel is proud to offer an incredible wildlife watching expedition to Antarctica and several sub-Antarctic islands. This comprehensive tour begins in the seaside city of Ushuaia, Argentina which is located at the southern tip of Tierra del Fuego. From Ushuaia we will set sail on a 20-day journey south to the frozen wilderness of Antarctica as well as the Falklands, South Georgia and the South Shetlands. The endless nights of the Antarctic summer will only add to the mystique of these places. The Falkland Islands will be the first stop on our voyage and we hope to have encounters with Black-browed Albatross and Rockhopper Penguins – one of the, at least, seven penguin species we hope to see on this trip! From the Falklands we journey south to South Georgia. South Georgia is often called the Galapagos of the south because of its abundant and unafraid wildlife. Ten of thousands of King Penguins breed here and are joined by many enigmatic species including Southern Elephant Seals, Wandering Albatross and Antarctic Fur Seals. South Georgia also has historical sites of great significance especially the trails and grave-site of Ernest Shackleton. Our journey south continues to Elephant Island before, ice permitting, sailing into the Weddell Sea. Huge tabular icebergs will announce our arrival to the eastern side of the Antarctic Peninsula. Chinstrap, Macaroni and Gentoo Penguins are common on Elephant Island and we should see Adelie Penguins once we reach Antarctica. After exploring the White Continent itself we will sail to the South Shetlands before crossing the Drake Passage bound for Ushuaia. Antarctica and the Sub-antarctic Islands are perhaps the most remote areas on the planet and offer extraordinary wildlife and dramatic landscapes including vast ice fields, glistening glaciers, snow-draped peaks and iceberg-choked fjords. The approachable wildlife and incredible scenery also make for fantastic photography. I invite you to join us as we explore the natural wonders and cultural sites of Antarctica, South Georgia, The Falklands and the South Shetlands.
