The Best of East African Wildlife
Optional 6-Day Post-trip Extension to Rwanda & Mountain Gorillas

Tanzania! The mere mention of the word evokes images of quintessential East Africa with sweeping vistas across vast plains punctuated with incredible wildlife. It is the stuff of dreams and yet the reality often exceeds one’s expectations. From the Elephant-filled Baobab forests of Tarangire to the savannas of the Serengeti, Tanzania is a feast for the senses. EcoQuest Travel is proud to offer an incredible journey to the extraordinary country of Tanzania.

We will begin our safari in Arusha before traveling Tanzania’s northern circuit through some of the best national parks in the world. Lying in the shadow of Kilimanjaro and, equally impressive, Mount Meru, Arusha National Park will be a great place to warm up our binoculars. Black-and-white Colobus Monkeys scamper through the forests and we should see our first Masai Giraffes, Burchell’s Zebra and African Buffalo. From Arusha we will travel south to Tarangire National Park – the place of Elephants. Although Elephants dominate this park is rich in game and good for predators.

From Tarangire we will journey west and traverse the Great Rift Valley to Lake Manyara National Park and its flamingo-fringed lake. From Manyara we climb the escarpment to the highlands of the Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro is awe inspiring - the view atop the crater rim is breathtaking and makes one feel both insignificant and a part of this ancient landscape at the same time. The crater floor below hosts one of the great mammal assemblages on the planet including some of the last Black Rhinos in East Africa. West of the crater the highlands drop onto the expansive Serengeti Plains. Even on a continent of superlatives the Serengeti stands out. The sheer density and diversity of wildlife is staggering. EcoQuest Travel is proud that you have chosen our services and we are looking forward to traveling with you as we journey to Tanzania to explore the best of East African wildlife.

We will also offer an incredible post-trip extension to trek Mountain Gorillas in Rwanda – a magical life-changing experience! Our adventure in Rwanda begins just after to our Tanzania safari. Rwanda is a tiny little jewel located in the heart of East Africa. Most of the country is a patchwork of agricultural fields tinted in various shades of green owing to the fertile soils. The rolling mountainous terrain increases from east to west reaching its apex with the gigantic pinnacles of the Virunga Volcanoes along the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The Virungas are a magical place of, swirling mists; dense forests dripping with moisture and festooned with epiphytes; and, most famously, Mountain Gorillas. Seeing Mountain Gorillas in the wild is an epic life-altering experience! We will also trek to see Golden Monkeys – a species endemic to the lush bamboo forests on the lower slopes of the Virunga Volcanoes. EcoQuest is proud to invite you to join us for this extension to Rwanda as we continue exploring the wildlife wonders of East Africa!
