Rainforest Diversity
Panama offers some of the best ecotourism possibilities in Central America. Despite being blessed with vast areas of protected forest, crystal clear Caribbean and Pacific waters dotted with emerald archipelagos, colorful indigenous cultures and the wonder of the Panama Canal, Panama is often bypassed by tourists – a fact that makes our journey even more appealing.
Located at the southern end of Central America, Panama serves as a physical and biological land bridge between North and South America. This intermingling of wildlife from both continents, along with Panama’s wide variety of habitats, produces incredible biological diversity. For example, Panama – a country smaller than South Carolina – is home to about 950 species of birds, which is more than are found in all of North America! Viewing this diversity is the main objective of this trip and we will hike the rainforest, ply remote rivers and explore cloud forests in search of wildlife. EcoQuest Travel, West Virginia University and Drs. Sheldon Owen & Amy Welsh are proud to invite you to journey with us to explore the rainforest diversity of Panama.
