The Birds & Wildlife of the Atlantic Coast, Atlas Mountains & Sahara Desert

Morocco is a tapestry of ancient architecture, incredible scenery, unique cuisine and contrasting habitats. Although known more as a cultural destination, Morocco is a haven for birds and other wildlife tucked away in surprisingly rich environments. From the soaring Atlas Mountains to the windswept dunes of the Sahara Desert Morocco’s landscape is diverse. It is this diversity that lends itself to the incredible birdlife which has its roots in both Africa and Europe. There are unique species found only in North Africa, some found only in the deserts, some in the high mountains and some along the Atlantic Coastline. We will spend time exploring all three of these unique habitats beginning in the ancient city of Marrakech and continuing south along the coast before venturing west into the Atlas Mountains and eventually the dunes of Erg Chebbi on the edge of the great Sahara. Although our trip will largely focus on birds we will also be looking for reptiles and mammals. Day 4 – Agadir – Tamri – Cape Rhir – Souss River Nature Reserve
Day 5 – Agadir – Souss-Massa National Park
Day 6 – Travel from Agadir to Ouarzazate
Day 7 – Ouarzazate – Al Manssour Reservoir – Tagdilt Track – Boumalne Dades
Day 8 – Boumalne Dades – Tagdilt Track – Dades Gorge
Day 9 – Boumalne to Erfoud
Day 10 – Erg Chebbi Dunes of the Sahara Desert
Day 11 - Erg Chebbi & Rissani
Day 12 - Erg Chebbi to Ouarzazate via Agdz
Day 13 – Ouarzazate – Atlas Mountains
