Lands of Fire & Ice:
The Wildlife, Scenery & Aurora Borealis of the Arctic North

EcoQuest Travel is proud to offer an incredible expedition to Iceland and East Greenland. Iceland is a land of fire and Greenland a land of ice. We will begin in Iceland and from the beautiful city of Reykjavik we will soak in the famous Blue Lagoon; as well as visit some of the scenic and geothermal features that make Iceland so special. After a couple of days in Southern Iceland we will journey north to wilds of Lake Myvatn in search of unique birdlife such as Harlequin and Barrow’s Goldeneye Ducks and the near mythical Gyrfalcon. We will also search for whales out of the ancient Viking city of Husavik where we could see up to seven species.

After a week of exploring Iceland we will board our expedition ship, the Plancius, and sail north to the frozen wilderness of Greenland. East Greenland’s coast is an extraordinary blend of dramatic landscapes including vast ice fields, glistening glaciers, snow-draped peaks and iceberg-choked fjords. Our nine-day cruise will not only showcase Greenland’s scenic beauty, but allow us to explore ancient Inuit villages lost in time; modern settlements; Arctic wildlife; and hopefully the majesty of the Aurora Borealis.

Although the diversity of wildlife in this part of the Arctic is low, it makes up for it by giving us chances to see some incredibly unique and rarely seen species like Narwhal, Arctic Hare and Musk Ox. While sailing between Iceland and Greenland we could see lots of whales, dolphins and seabirds. The fantastic wildlife and scenery also make both Iceland and Greenland special places for photography. Days 8 – 16 – Saturday through Sunday: East Greenland Cruise
Day 8 – Saturday: Free Time in Akureyri and Board the Ship
Day 9 – Sunday: Sailing to East Greenland
Day 10 – Monday: Inuit Settlement of Yesteryear
Day 11 – Tuesday: Colors of the Cape & Rode Fjord
Day 12 – Wednesday: Enormous Icebergs & Arctic Hares
Day 13 – Thursday: Settlement at Scoresbysund
Day 14 – Friday: Remote Shores & Hopefully Narwhal
Day 15 – Saturday: Sea Life Under the Northern Lights as we Sail Back to Iceland
